Guided through each step of the process, you’ll transform natural materials into a beautiful, playable frame drum while exploring one of humanity’s oldest and most enduring musical instruments.

Frame drums have been crafted and played by cultures around the world for thousands of years. From ceremonies and storytelling to healing traditions, celebrations, and personal expression, these instruments have served as powerful tools for rhythm and connection across generations.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn about the history, cultural significance, and construction of frame drums while building an instrument that is uniquely your own.

Using traditional techniques, you’ll assemble your own handcrafted frame drum while gaining a deeper understanding of the materials and methods that give each drum its distinctive voice.

No woodworking or musical experience is necessary. This workshop is designed for beginners, musicians, artists, educators, and anyone interested in traditional crafts, world music, or creating something meaningful with their own hands.

Custom Drum Options

The standard workshop includes a handcrafted frame drum with a deer hide drum head.

If you’d like to build a larger drum or choose an alternative hide such as elk, buffalo, or other available natural skins, we’re happy to accommodate custom requests. Please contact us before registering for current availability and additional material costs.
